Rising Creekview senior Karina Van Der Walt recently committed to play Division I college lacrosse at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Van Der Walt announced her commitment to play for the Mountain Hawks via social media.
“(I love) the location,” Van Der Walt said. “The campus is so beautiful, the academics (are great), and then just the overall team dynamic, and the coaches, is awesome.”
Creekview coach Savannah Porter said she has no doubts that Van Der Walt will do great at Lehigh.
“She’s smart and she’s a hard worker,” Porter said. “She takes lacrosse very seriously, and she’s been playing from a young age. She’s very committed, and she plays year round.”
In 2021, Van Der Walt had 97 goals with 30 assists for the Lady Grizzlies. She had 29 ground balls, 71 draw control wins and had a shot percentage of 66 percent.
Van Der Walt was named to the 2021 Georgia All-State 1st team, the Georgia All-Star team and Georgia National No. 1. She was named the offensive player of the year at Creekview.
Van Der Walt has played midfield in high school, but she said she will be playing attack in college.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting the team,” Van Der Walt said. “And just coming in and being able to make an impact and make lifelong friends.”
