Wednesday saw two more Cherokee County softball teams advance past the first round of the state playoffs.
Cherokee and Etowah both swept doubleheaders from their opponents in the Class AAAAAAA state playoffs and joined Class AAAAAA contenders Creekview and River Ridge in the second round.
Cherokee (20-7) defeated Westlake 19-0 and 22-0 in a pair of three-inning games. The Lady Warriors outhit the Lady Lions 28-2 in the two-game sweep.
Jordyn Stanfill and Emma Worley each had four RBIs to lead Cherokee in the two games, while Worley and Parker Modica picked up the wins. A 15-run third inning in the second game epitomized the series for the Lady Warriors, who are ranked No. 6 in Class AAAAAAA.
Cherokee will now turn its attention to Mountain View (17-9), the No. 2 seed out of Region 6AAAAAAA and the No. 8-ranked team in the state.
Etowah (19-8) also swept its doubleheader with a pair of convincing victories, beating Campbell 13-0 and 13-2 and outhitting the Lady Spartans 27-6. The first game ended in four innings, with the second game ending in five.
Bri Condon and Kiersten James each homered in the first game, while Kinsey Norton earned the win. Condon finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs in Game 1, while Alaina Smith finished 4-for-4 with five RBIs in Game 2. Natalie Harper picked up the win in Game 2.
Etowah, the No. 10-ranked team in Class AAAAAAA, will next face North Gwinnett (26-1), the Region 6AAAAAAA champion and the No. 2-ranked team in the state.
Cherokee will host Mountain View in a doubleheader next Wednesday, with the first game at 5 p.m. Etowah will travel to North Gwinnett on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
