River Ridge moved within a game of second place in Region 6AAAAAA Tuesday with a 15-0, four-inning win over Osborne.

Jack O’Donnell went three innings with seven strikeouts, and Lane Tangzelius recorded all three of his outs via strikeout as the Knights (14-12, 10-4) held the Cardinals without a hit.

Offensively, Ethan Anderson had a grand slam and a double to finish 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while Carson Bell finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Woodstock 5, Roswell 2: Woodstock locked up a playoff spot and moved back into the second seed in Region 4AAAAAAA with a win over Roswell on Tuesday.

The Wolverines (18-10, 8-5) were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when Spencer Keefe’s two-run home run tied the game.

Logan McMunn’s RBI single later in the inning put Woodstock up for good, but Keefe drove in another run in the fourth, and Preston Gunnell doubled home a run in the fifth to give Woodstock some insurance.

Garrett Goblish got the win on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out five.

Sequoyah 5, Allatoona 4: Colin Koprowski struck out 10 in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday as Sequoyah held off Allatoona.

Koprowski also added two hits and two RBIs at the plate, while Austin Tienda and Kenskey Thomas also drove in runs.


Woodstock 3, Colquitt County 0: Woodstock went on the road and started its playoff run the right way Tuesday.

The Wolverines got a 6-0, 6-2 win from the team of Ramon Elortondo and Matthew Sanchez. Owen Wenzel was even more comfortable in his 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, and Tyler Onufrock survived a third set at No. 2 singles to win 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Woodstock will face the winner of Wheeler and North Paulding in the second round next week.

Etowah 3, Lowndes 0: Etowah pulled off the sweep and upset Lowndes to advance to the second round of the state tournament Tuesday.

Josh Raab won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to set the tone. The Eagles’ other two wins came in doubles play, where Carrington Cruikshank and Ryan Raugh won 6-2, 6-1, and the team of Braedon Mongold and Dalton Miler won 6-4, 6-2.


Etowah 3, Lowndes 0: Etowah made quick work of Lowndes on Tuesday with a first-round win without dropping a set.

Sophie Mnich and Maggie Messerly faced little resistance at their singles lines, with Mnich winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and Messerly winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2.

In doubles play, the team of Katie Bosnell and Alexa Thaggard won 6-2, 6-0 to seal the win.

Woodstock 3, Colquitt County 0: Woodstock cruised through its first-round match with Colquitt County on Tuesday to advance to the second round of the Class AAAAAAA state playoffs.

The Lady Wolverines got singles wins from Alonna Wood at No. 1 (6-0, 6-2) and Katelyn Hackett at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0). Lorlei Wood and Jessica Goodwin won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles to complete the sweep.
