River Ridge moved into a three-way tie with Creekview and Allatoona for second in Region 6AAAAAA with an 11-1, four-inning win over South Cobb on Thursday.

Brandon Smith threw all four innings and was effectively wild with four walks and seven strikeouts while allowing just two hits.

The Knights (15-12, 11-4) got their offense from Smith and Andrew Nuebert, who drove in two runs apiece, while Diego Perez, Holden Bedora and Carson Bell each drove in one run each.

Woodstock 10-6, Roswell 2-0: Woodstock picked up a pair of comfortable wins Thursday to sweep a doubleheader and lock up the second seed in Region 4AAAAAAA.

Josiah Siegel struck out 11 in Game 1 to set the tone for the Wolverines (20-10, 10-5).

Brennan Milone went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Spencer Keefe was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Carter Maczko, Julian Berrio and Justin Boyd also drove in runs in the first half of the doubleheader.

In the nightcap, Cason Rich struck out seven in six innings and Joey Edison pitched a perfect seventh inning that held the Hornets to just one hit.

Milone had three hits himself and drove in two more runs. Maczko also drove in another pair, while Logan McMunn and David Smigelski ech drove in a run.

Sequoyah 11, Osborne 0: Austin Mahar and T.J. Murphy combined to strike out 14 while allowing just one hit as Sequoyah closed out its season with a six-inning win Thursday.

The Chiefs (9-17, 6-10 Region 6AAAAAA) were led offensively by Austin Tienda, who was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Colin Koprowski, who drove in a trio of runs without a hit.

Hunter Long drove in a pair of runs, while Bradley Gordon and Porter Burns each drove in one.


Etowah 3, North Paulding 0: Etowah pulled off another sweep Thursday to reach the Class AAAAAAA quarterfinals, where it will face Lambert.

The Lady Eagles got a 6-3, 6-1 win from Maggie Messerly at No. 2 singles, while Leighann Morgan and Kyleigh Head won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Katie Bosnell and Alexa Thaggard won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.
