Dalton bounced backed from its first loss of the season to take down River Ridge on Friday at Harmon Field, 34-7.

The game was scoreless before senior running back Jahmyr Gibbs broke free early in the second on a 68-yard touchdown run.

After quarterback Ashton Blackwell, who started for Dalton's regular starter Landon Allen, came out of the game with a shoulder injury, Parker Adams came in and hit Karim Page for a 55-yard touchdown to give the Catamounts (5-1, 3-1 in Region 6AAAAAA) the lead at halftime, 14-0.

Gibbs added three addition touchdown runs of 83, 50 and 64 yards. He finished the night with 326 yards on 21 carries, but what impressed Dalton coach Matt Land the most, he said, was the way his players fought.

The Catamounts were without multiple starters on Friday, not just Allen, including standout offensive lineman Osbaldo Beltran and leading receiver Hunter Noland.

Adams was moved from his starting position of free safety to play quarterback.

"We have never had this many injuries in key positions as we do right now since I've been here," Land said. "I have no idea what's happening. I just know we are having to get a lot more creative than I thought we would have to be.

"The next man stepped up and did their job, and everyone did their job."

After taking a loss at Harrison last week, Land said he was proud of the turnaround.

"I think we found our heart last week, but tonight we found our soul," he said. "These guys played their guts out."

Dalton continues region play with another home game next Friday as the Catamounts host South Cobb.
