Creekview has a new baseball coach.

David Smart, formally of Denmark High School is coming to Cherokee County to take over the Grizzlies program. The announcement was made by Creekview principal Mike Santoro on Twitter over the weekend.

Smart replaces long-time coach Mike Nayman, who has been with the program since the school opened in 2006. Smart inherits a program that went 7-22 in 2021, and has only one winning season since 2015.

Smart comes to Creekview from Denmark High School in Forsyth County. In his three seasons at Denmark, he helped led to the

Danes to a state championship appearance in 2019 and an elite eight finish in 2021. Prior to Denmark, he served as the head coach at LaGrange High School where he helped lead the Grangers to a final four finish in 2017 and a sweet 16 finish in 2016. In his 26 years of coaching, Smart has coached in 10 state finals and 14 semifinals. Smart has been on staff for three state championship teams.

He has received the Georgia Dugout Club Coaching in Ethics Award, Georgia Dugout Club 4A Coach of the Year and the Atlanta Braves 400 Club Coach of the Year.
