A total of 57 Cherokee County swimmers were set to head to the state meet this weekend.

Fifty-seven Cherokee County swimmers qualified for the Class A State Swim Meet.

The swimmers qualified though the Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s District 5 meet June 26 at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center.

Competition at the state meet began Friday and will conclude Saturday at the Cumming Aquatic Center.

The swimmers worked with coach Dusty Evans and assistant coach Allie Szatmary in preparation for the meet. The coaches have worked with the swimmers since the district meet.

“We are so proud of these swimmers and can’t wait to watch them compete,” Kim Whatley, director of aquatics for Cherokee Recreation and Parks, said in a release. “We wish all of our Cherokee swimmers the best of luck.”
