We are constantly inundated with information in the news highlighting the urgency of recycling and waste reduction. All of us have seen the stories of landfills filling up, plastics in the oceans, etc. Given that, imagine my surprise when Santek Waste Service of North Georgia Atlanta sent a letter informing me that curbside recycling would cease effective Oct. 1. This leaves no curbside recycling options in the Ball Ground area, and no local site that accepts recyclables, except for the Holly Springs County Marshal site, which is about 15 miles away. This decision, blamed on low participation, is not in the spirit of the times, and will gut the amount of recycling in our county.

I fired Santek several months ago and went with Bossman of Ballground they don’t offer recycling but they are a local business and much cheaper than Santek. Santek was unresponsive to their customers and had several large price increases. Do yourself a favor and shop around for better service.
