Marie Weissman wrote a (letter to the editor) I wish everyone would/could read. Basically she said that instead of listening to others characterizing her Democratic views, talk to her, you might find out that we have more in common than your think.
It is right on. I would only add that we should also talk to Republicans as well to find out how much we have in common with them.
The Republicans love our country. They have a view of limited government. Taken to the extreme, it would mean that there would be no Social Security, no Medicare, no FAA oversight of transportation, no child labor laws, no FDA drug and food oversight, etc.
The Democrats love our country. They have a view of a larger role of government. Taken to the extreme, it would mean many of our personal freedoms would be limited, and businesses would find it more difficult to make a profit, and American ingenuity which built our great country could suffer.
We need to find our common ground and compromise to find the best solutions for our country. I believe we both want a strong military, we both want a good infrastructure for our country, we both want a health care system that works for everyone, we both want a fair and reasonable immigration process, we both want law and order and understand the need for peaceful protests, we both want a fair election, and we both want a strong economy that works for all of us.
Continuing this name calling and bickering will do nothing for our country but paralyze it. We will all lose.
