Jura Shelton Burt passed away on Thursday October 21, 2021. She was born in the Dial Community of Fannin County, GA and was raised by farming parents, Ed and Dorothy Towe Shelton. It was there she was instilled with morals, family values, work ethics and a way of life she would carry for a lifetime. In 1955 at the age of 16, Jura graduated from the old Fannin County High School. By age 18 she took it upon herself to move to Atlanta and lived in the Churchs Home for Women. While there she landed her first full time job with the Crum & Foster Insurance Company. She would go on to work with them and the various owner for 42 years. Earning the title of Sr. Claims Supervisor, she worked with Jim Walter Homes through Hurricane Hugo and many other hurricanes and claims. After her retirement, she continued working various little jobs as she felt she was too young to retire. Her greatest attributes were her heritage, her strong will, being with her children, Judy Burt Leach and Jeff Burt; her grandchildren, Christy Prince and Kenneth Young and her great-grandchildren Andrew Prince, Ashley Prince, Blake Prince, Jake Prince and Zoe Prince. Many passed on before her whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Judy and her husband, Ted Leach; granddaughter, Christy and her husband, Scott Prince; her five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley S. Meers of Dial, GA and Alean S. Roper of Nantahala, NC and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jura's hobbies were working in her yard, plants, thrift stores and just piddling around. Her legacy is her pride, heritage, morals, values and a true love of family. She is and always will be remembered as, "She did things her way and on her own time". Funeral services for Jura will be held on Tuesday October 26th from the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, GA with interment to follow in Melwood Cemetery in Stone Mountain, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to her services.
