Krispy Kreme

Woodstock residents looking to satisfy their sweet tooth will soon be able to look for the “hot sign” of a Krispy Kreme coming to Highway 92.

The doughnut shop famous for its hot glazed confections is planning to renovate the property located at 9420 on Highway 92, which is now occupied by an abandoned gas station.

“My understanding is that they are going to totally redevelop that site,” said Woodstock Community Development Director Brantley Day. “That gas station will be gone and they will start over.”

While Day said he is unsure about the size of the development, he said a drive-thru will be included similar to many of their other locations.

“We are not sure how big it will be yet,” he said. “They are still working on their site plan.”

The restaurant will connect with the Ruby Tuesday’s to the east of the property and Day said the development will still be accessible from the Highway 92 where access exists.

“That property has been vacant for a long time,” he said. “It’s on a great side of the road, it’s in a prime location and it’s great that we got somebody interested in redeveloping it because I think that’s probably the best thing for it. I think it’s very exciting.”

Woodstock City Council members also expressed their excitement about the new development at their meeting Monday night.

Krispy Kreme requested a sign variance that was approved 5-0, with Councilman Bob Mueller absent.

“I don’t have a problem with (the sign),” said Councilman Bud Leonard. “I just want to know when they are going to start selling doughnuts.”

The opening of the development is still unknown, as Brantley said the city has not begun working with the corporate offices of the company.

“A lot of time you think it should happen quickly but there’s a lot of corporate decisions they have to make that we aren’t aware of,” he said. “I think it’s a great asset. They are a great corporate citizen and I am really excited for them and for us. I think it’s a great opportunity for everybody.”
