Two people were killed in a traffic crash involving a concrete truck and a small pickup in Ball Ground on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Police and fire personnel were dispatched to the scene on Ball Ground Highway at about 4:12 p.m. Monday. The crash occurred between Blackwell Street and Cliff Holcomb Drive.
Equipment from two wrecker services was needed to assist in extracting the victims from the wreckage and to stabilize the concrete truck.
Ball Ground police assisted the State Patrol in taking measurements for the investigation, as well as identifying the victims and notifying their families, Chief Bryon Reeves said Tuesday.
Ball Ground police directed traffic away from the crash scene while fire and EMS personnel worked to remove the victims.
Traffic was diverted into the Shell Station parking lot at 8615 Ball Ground Highway to get around the crash site, Ball Ground Police Chief Bryon Reeves said Tuesday.
“Fortunately the traffic started to thin down around 6 p.m. so traffic was not really a bad issue,” Reeves said in an email. “Many people were aware of alternate routes and the public handled the traffic situation very well.”
The accident scene was cleared and the road fully reopened at 7:24 p.m., Reeves said.
Attempts to reach State Patrol officials Tuesday for more information were unsuccessful.
