Two adults and a juvenile were injured Saturday when a boat they were riding on suffered an engine explosion on Allatoona Lake.
“At approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, Georgia DNR Game Wardens responded to a boat incident with injuries at Harbor Town Marina in Cherokee County,” Public Affairs Officer Mark McKinnon with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Law Enforcement Division said. “An adult female, adult male and juvenile female were injured when a 36-foot cabin cruiser had an explosion in the engine compartment. Two of the three on board were ejected from the vessel. The male was transported to Kennestone Hospital in Cobb County for injuries by family members. The juvenile female was transported to Grady Hospital in Fulton County with severe injuries.”
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Field Operations Chief Shane West said Engine 19 and Squad 19 were the first units the fire department dispatched to the scene of the incident. However, the two units initially found themselves across the cove from where those onboard the boat had come ashore, thus Truck 1 and Squad 1 were the first to arrive on the scene, while Battalion 1 and MedCon (medical supervisor) 1 were also involved. Lastly, Boat 20 was ready to go, but ended up not being needed and was not launched.
“We transported one individual to Grady Hospital for burns,” West added, also explaining that the fire was out upon the fire department’s arrival.
Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker said deputies with the sheriff’s office were also among the first responders to arrive at the scene and were ready to assist as needed.
