Ministry had growing empire before forced-labor charges

This is the headquarters of the Imperial Valley Ministries located in El Centro, Calif. It is housed in an old movie theater. U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer on Monday, September 10, 2019 announced the arrest of 12 people, leaders of the Imperial Valley Ministries, accusing them of subjecting 31 mostly homeless people to forced labor forcing them to surrender welfare benefits and making them panhandle for the financial benefit of church leaders.
