The City of Nelson has officially set its municipal election qualifying dates, with qualifying being held between Aug. 16 and 18.

The city of Nelson has officially set qualifying dates for the position of mayor and city council posts 1 and 2.

Anyone wishing to run for any of the three offices up for grabs this election cycle will be able to qualify between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16 through Wednesday, Aug. 18. Election qualifying will be held at the Pickens County Board of Elections and Registration Office, located at 83 Pioneer Road in Jasper.

The offices held by Nelson Mayor Silvia Green, and council seats held by James Queen and Susan Johnston are up for re-election in November.

The qualifying fee for each of the three spots is $25.

The dates for qualifying for city council in Waleska have changed to Aug. 16 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 9 to 11 at city hall, 8891 Fincher Rd. Waleska has three city council seats up for election, currently held by council members Kristi Bosch, Paul Ice, and Jon Costales. The fee is $72.
