The Ball Ground City Council approved entering into a lease agreement with Georgia Northwest Railroad, allowing the city to use a vacant piece of land on Valley Street as parking for the downtown area.

People wanting to enjoy all downtown Ball Ground has to offer will soon have an easier time finding parking.

The Ball Ground City Council unanimously approved a lease with Georgia Northwestern Railroad to use a vacant lot the railroad owns for about 60-70 parking spots in the downtown area.

Mayor Rick Roberts explained that the lot was located on the east side of Valley Road, almost directly across the street from an existing parking lot and next to the Ball Ground Beauty Spot. The site had at one point been proposed for residential development, although these plans never came to fruition. He added the city’s estimated that the lease will have an annual cost of approximately $5,600.

“It would be, I think, a well-received additional parking for downtown,” he said.
