A man was killed before dawn Saturday in a single-vehicle crash on White Road in the Sutallee community.

According to Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Capt. Jay Baker:

At approximately 4 a.m. Saturday, Cherokee Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident on White Road in which a Chevy Equinox traveling east toward Ga. Highway 108 left the road, stuck a mailbox, fire hydrant and then a large tree.

“The adult male driver died at the scene of the accident. There were no passengers in the vehicle. Preliminary indications are that speed likely played a role in the accident,” Baker said. “The driver’s name is not being released at this time.”

The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the accident. The traffic fatality was the seventh the sheriff’s office has responded to in recent weeks.
