A Cherokee High School student has won a regional essay contest.

Senior Heidi Martinez earned first place in the Optimist International Essay Contest for the Zone 2 region. The region includes all of Cherokee County as well as Pickens and Gilmer counties, which together are served by nine Optimist Clubs. Heidi will now advance to the next level of competition. This year’s theme for the international contest is “Is Optimism the Key to Achieving the Dreams You iMagine?” Her winning essay is posted on the CCSD website.

Heidi will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at the School Board’s March 19 meeting, where Canton Optimist Club members will present her with her Zone 2 medal.
