A Woodstock man reported a firearm stolen from his truck at his residence overnight Aug. 9.

According to a Woodstock police report, the victim told police that his black Springfield XDS 9mm handgun, as well as an unknown amount of change, was taken from his car between 11 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday. He said he usually locks the vehicle, but he may have left it unlocked after retrieving something from it around 11 p.m.

The gun is estimated to be worth around $600.

The reporting officer noted there was no surveillance footage outside the residence, and because the victim drove the vehicle after the theft before reporting it there was no crime scene to process. Police have entered the gun's serial number into a Georgia Bureau of Investigation database and contacted the department's criminal investigations division.

An unlocked car with a gun. Great job!
