Holly Springs police are asking for the public's help locating the man who was driving a maroon car, pictured above, in the Carson Creek subdivision Sunday afternoon.

Holly Springs police are asking for the public's help locating a man while they investigate what may have been an attempted child abduction.

A maroon sedan approached a boy at about 4:42 p.m. Sunday in the Carson Creek subdivision under the guise of looking for a lost kitten, Holly Springs police said on their Facebook page.

The man, who police describe as about 40 years old with short, dark hair and a "scraggly" salt and pepper beard, told the child to "hop in the car" when the child agreed to help, according to Holly Springs police. The child screamed for the man to get away, and he left the neighborhood, police said.

The car was seen entering the neighborhood at 4:41 p.m. Sunday and leaving at 4:43 p.m., according to video stills shared by Holly Springs Police.

Anyone who recognizes the vehicle or knows of a similar incident is asked to contact Sgt. Mike Sheehan at 770-721-7529.
