Races for Ball Ground’s city elections have been set, and five candidates are vying for the seat left vacant by former Councilman Frank Homiller.
Homiller recently announced that, due to a work-related scheduling conflict, he would be unable to continue fulfilling his duties as a city councilman. He turned in his resignation in late July.
Running in the special election for Ball Ground City Council Post 3 are Vicki Benefield, Cory Cooper, Adam Humphries, Darrell McNeal and Mark Popham, City Clerk Karen Jordan said.
Ball Ground’s special election will be held in conjunction with the elections for mayor and Posts 4 and 5 of the city council. Rick Roberts was the only candidate to qualify for the mayoral race, while incumbent John Byrd and Kristine Rogers qualified in the Post 4 election. For the Post 5 seat, Ben Reilly, Dennis Nelson and Charles Jenkins all qualified to stand as candidates. Post 5 is currently held by Councilman Mickey O’Malley, who said earlier this year he would not be running for another term.
