Motorists wanting to access Interstate 575 southbound from Canton will have to plan for a longer trip, as the Georgia Department of Transportation will be closing the on-ramp at Exit 20 for repair work.

Starting Tuesday, the southbound on-ramp leading from Riverstone Parkway to I-575 will be closed every day from 8 a.m. to no later than sundown for approximately four weeks, according to a news release from GDOT.

“The project will remove fallen tree branches and other debris from underneath the bridge,” the release said.

While work to complete the repairs is ongoing, drivers wanting to go southbound on I-575 from Riverstone Parkway will be detoured to I-575 northbound before being directed to exit the interstate on Exit 24 (Airport Drive), then get back onto the interstate heading south from there.

Surely the detour instructions given by the GA Department of Transportation were an April Fool joke. A detour going to Airport Road and back is almost 11 miles. Would it not have been easier to detour via Main St.? Only government could be that ridiculous. Who ties their shoes?
