A house in the 7000 block of McCurley Road was destroyed in a fire Monday evening.

A house in southwest Cherokee County was destroyed in a fire Monday evening that resulted in no reported injuries.

The fire broke out in the 7000 block of McCurley Road, off Kellogg Creek Road west of Woodstock, according to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services. Firefighters arrived after 6 p.m. Monday to find around half of the two-story home involved in the fire. The flames were eventually brought under control, but the house received significant damage from the fire.

The two residents were at home at the time of the fire, but were not injured.

“The cause appears to be accidental and was started outside the house on the porch,” Cherokee County Fire Investigator Ashley Pope said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
