East Cherokee Drive was reopened after it was closed due to a traffic accident, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office reported.

"E. Cherokee Dr. near Avery Road is closed due to an accident," the sheriff's office said at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in a Facebook post.

By about 1:21 p.m., the road was open again, sheriff's office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area. Union Hill Road or Epperson Road can be used as alternate routes.

A truck driver sustained minor injuries, Baker said.

In a photo posted by the sheriff's office, a box truck is across both lanes of traffic.
