A Marietta man was arrested after midnight Friday when a Cherokee Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled him over after the Lexus the man was driving was clocked at 126 mph.
According to Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Capt. Jay Baker:
Kenan Simpson, 20, of Marietta was pulled over on Interstate 575 northbound at about 12:30 a.m. Friday when a deputy using radar clocked his Lexus ES330 traveling at 126 mph on the interstate near Ga. Highway 92. The traffic stop was made near Ridgewalk Parkway. The speed limit on I-575 is 70 mph.
There were no passengers in the vehicle with Simpson. But there was a cat inside the car.
Simpson was placed under arrest for speeding, reckless driving and violation of a Class D License. Animal Control was called to the scene to take possession of the cat.
Simpson remained in custody early Friday afternoon at the Cherokee County jail with a $2,260 bond.
The speed enforcement detail was part of a response designed to curtail fatal crashes on local roads, Baker said.
