The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash in southeast Cherokee County.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash at about 7:14 a.m. Thursday morning, near the intersection of Mountain Road and Arnold Mill Road near Woodstock. A driver had found the car in the wood line near the intersection.

A man was found dead inside the car. The car appeared to have been there overnight, authorities said, and had been captured passing a nearby traffic camera at 1:42 a.m.

The sheriff’s office has not released the identity of the driver.

“The vehicle collided with a large tree after leaving the roadway. It appears speed was a contributing factor in the accident,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
