A Cherokee County grand jury has indicted three Cobb County residents on felony charges, after authorities say they broke into a Woodstock apartment and attacked the residents with a knife and stun gun.

Mageria-Joseph Gocho Kem, and brothers Jared Martinez and John Christian Martinez of Cobb County, have been charged with home invasion and aggravated assault, according to an indictment filed June 13.

According to their arrest warrants, the night of Oct. 29, the three men broke into an apartment in the Skyridge complex in Woodstock and attacked two residents inside. At the time, John Martinez was 22, Jared Martinez was 17, and Kem was 18, according to the warrants.

John Martinez has additionally been charged with aggravated assault — family violence. He’s accused of using a stun gun on one of the victims, his ex-girlfriend, according to Brittany Page, Woodstock Police Department spokeswoman. John Martinez, along with Kem, have also been charged with false imprisonment for allegedly confining and detaining John Martinez’ ex girlfriend, according to the indictment.

In Kem and Jared Martinez’s warrants, police say they held a knife against another resident’s throat and “repeatedly cut him.”

Kem and Jared Martinez have also been charged with perjury: per the indictment, they falsely told police they were allowed into the apartment, did not possess a knife or stun gun, and did not engage in a physical altercation with the victims, according to the indictment.

All three were released from Cherokee County custody on bond last year, according to the sheriff’s office. John Martinez was booked in the Cherokee County jail Oct. 31, 2020, and bonded out March 20, 2021. Jared Martinez was booked in the jail May 17, 2021, and bonded out May 25, 2021. Kem was booked in the jail May 5, 2021, and was bonded out the next day.

An indictment is a formal charge of felony offenses, and defendants are assumed innocent until proven guilty.
