An arrest has been made in a hit and run last Monday on Bells Ferry Road that severely injured a 15-year-old girl, the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office announced.
Adrian Perez Luis, 27, of Forest Park, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with felony hit and run, serious injury by vehicle and distracted driving.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 15-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle at about 3:13 p.m. Monday while she was crossing Bells Ferry Road just south of Highway 92.
The teen remains at Scottish Rite Hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries.
Authorities identified a large white box truck as the vehicle that struck the teen.
Luis was arrested at his place of employment, “A Garcia Produce and Trucking,” in Forest Park, which fully cooperated with the investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Investigators believe Luis was entering information into a GPS on his phone at the time of the collision,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Capt. Jay Baker said in a news release.
The sheriff’s office credited members of the public who called in tips to identify the vehicle, local businesses that provided security video and the Cobb County Police Department, which assisted in obtaining images of the truck shortly after the collision.
Luis is being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $17,580 bond.
