A former Atlanta police officer who was arrested and charged with rape in Cherokee County has since been fired, the department announced.
Lionel Dely, 32, of Marietta, was charged by Cherokee Sheriff’s Office investigators after an investigation of a rape allegation that was reported to authorities Feb. 2.
Authorities say Dely raped a woman at her Acworth apartment who he had just met, and he had told her he was an Atlanta officer conducting an investigation. Atlanta Police Department has said he was not on official business at the time.
Dely turned himself in to authorities Feb. 11 at the Cherokee County jail. As of Tuesday morning, he remained in custody at the jail without bond.
Atlanta Police Department has said it is cooperating with the investigation.
Dely had worked for Atlanta Police since 2015.
