Cherokee County's Emergency Management Director Renee Cornelison is retiring this month, according to Chief Marshal Ron Hunton.

Cornelison began her career with Cherokee County in 2002 as an administrative assistant and rose through the ranks to her current assignment. She was named director of EMA in 2014 and has led emergency and dangerous weather preparedness and response for Cherokee County.

“Renee has been a truly dedicated employee to Cherokee County and a tremendous asset to the citizens during her tenure with EMA. Renee is respected not only locally but statewide for her skills," Hunton said. "She will be sorely missed but we all wish her the best as she opens a new chapter in her life.”

The Marshal’s Office expects to name Cornelison’ s replacement in the coming weeks.

There will be a public retirement ceremony in Cornelison’s honor at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at The Bluffs, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton.
