A 20-year-old Cherokee County man was arrested this week in Athens on child pornography charges, authorities said.
According to Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Capt. Jay Baker:
Gabriel Lemay, 20, who lives on Waterfront Court near Woodstock has been booked into the Cherokee County jail on 15 charges of sexual exploitation of children.
“Detectives with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Waterfront Court near Woodstock on Wednesday,” Baker said. “The investigation began after detectives received a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding child pornography being accessed at the Woodstock home. Investigators were able to identify the suspect as 20-year-old Gabriel Lemay.”
Lemay, a student at the University of Georgia, was in Athens at the university and he was arrested Wednesday in his dorm room by university police based on a Cherokee County arrest warrant.
“Investigators are conducting forensic searches of computers taken from Lemay’s home,” Baker said, and additional charges are possible.
Lemay remained in jail without bond on Thursday afternoon.
