In addition to naming and recognizing the First Citizen of Cherokee County, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Thursday honored local businesses and nonprofit organizations for their service to the community.
The Chamber also welcomed its new board chair and other leaders.
Duane Jones of Foundation Financial, also a Chamber Ambassador, was presented with the 2022 Chairman’s Council Joan McFather Volunteer of the Year Award. The award is in memory of McFather, a longtime volunteer with the Chamber who passed in 2019. The award celebrates a volunteer’s dedication and contributions to the Chamber as a member of the Chairman’s Council.

Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce
Recognized for exemplary service in the community, Woodstock West by Walton was presented with the 2023 Excellence in Customer Service Award. Northside Hospital Cherokee Auxiliary received recognition as the 2023 Non-Profit of the Year.
Represented in the Chamber by Community Director Laura Gentilello, Woodstock West by Walton was named the 2023 Excellence in Customer Service Award winner.
Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce
The Chambers’ 2023 Chair, Trey Ragsdale, was endowed with the position by outgoing Chair Brian Stevens, CEO and co-owner of FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers. Ragsdale works in the external affairs department of Kaiser Permanente.
Eight members of the Chamber Board were recognized for their service: Lori Baker, Next Step Ministries; Heather Blevins, The Pampered Chef; Randy Gravley, WLJA 101.1 FM and Enjoy Cherokee Magazine; Amy Leatherman, Universal Alloy Corporation; Abby Roach, Roach, Caudill and Frost; Rick Rowland, United Community Bank; Jud Waites, Waites Law Firm and Jey Willis, State Farm Insurance Jey Willis Agency.
Adam Smith, the 2021 Chair, was also recognized for his six years of service with the Chamber.
The Board of Directors welcomed seven new members to serve three-year terms as well: Brian Hightower, Cherokee County School District; Kendall Jones, MUST Ministries; Vic Knight, Waste Management; Sherry Lowe-Cooke, COACHNWORKS, LLC; Debbie Underkoffler, North Georgia Staffing; Stephanie Villasenor, Cherokee Family Violence Center and Debra Williams, Synovus.
“These new Board members bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table,” Ragsdale said. “I look forward to serving alongside these volunteers along with those who will continue to serve on the Chamber Board as we work collaboratively to meet the Chamber’s mission.”
This year, the Chamber’s internal and external teams will use the newly unveiled Thrive 2025 Strategic plan to support the organization’s primary goals: “to connect leaders, create business growth opportunities, cultivate member-to-member relationships, enhance member benefits and existing programs, while increasing the organizations net membership,” according to Ragsdale.
