New Year’s Day was marked by many celebrations, but was even more special for families of the first children born in 2020.

The first baby reported in Cherokee County was born a little after 4 a.m. Jan. 1.

Annette Pina-Alba was born at 4:14 a.m. on Jan. 1 at Northside Hospital Cherokee, the hospital reported Thursday. Her parents are Maria Alba and Luis Pina of Woodstock. The newborn weighed 10 pounds and 1 ounce. Both mom and baby are doing well, and Annette is Alba and Pina’s second child, according to Northside. The hospital reports approximately 2,000 babies were born there last year.

Two hours later, just outside of Cherokee at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, Matt and Nikki Lear of Canton were celebrating the birth of their second child. Maxwell James Lear was born at 6:24 a.m. His older brother Hudson, 7, was born on Christmas Day.

Last year’s first baby was Declan Douglas Fuller, born at 1 a.m. Jan. 1, 2019 to Kelly and Chase Fuller of Canton at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
