The Cherokee County Water and Sewer Authority will celebrate Drinking Water Week May 2 to May 8, with a slew of events aimed at showcasing the importance of the county’s water resources.
The water authority has a number of activities lined up for the community to participate in, including meet ups, a tour of a water treatment facility and a coloring contest.
The first meetup will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 at the Frosty Frog Creamery and Cafe, 6205 Hickory Flat Highway, Suite 112 near Canton. Additional meet ups will be held from 10 a.m. to noon May 4 at Reinhardt University in the science building atrium, 7300 Reinhardt Circle in Waleska, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 5 at Barrel House Coffee Co., 275 Gilmer Ferry Road, Suite 5 in Ball Ground.
Visitors at these meet ups will be able to learn about the county’s drinking water and ask questions. Free gifts will be available at these community events. Gifts include magnet clips, color-changing cups, color-changing pencils and stickers.
The water authority will host tours of the Etowah River Water Treatment Facility in Ball Ground 9 to 11 a.m. May 4, and from 2 to 4 p.m. May 6. The tour will take visitors through the facility to show where the water comes from and how it’s treated.

For the kids, there will be coloring contest sheets for students kindergarten through third. These sheets can be obtained upon request or at the main office, 140 W. Main St. in Canton.
Completed coloring sheets can be dropped off at the main office either inside or drive-thru. Participants may also take a photo of the completed coloring sheet and e-mail it to email@example.com with students name and grade. One or more students will be selected to win a $10 ice-cream gift card. The deadline to turn the coloring sheets is May 14.
