CATS is suspending services for Canton fixed routes, Empower Cherokee and the senior center due to the gas shortage caused by a cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline.

In an effort to conserve fuel, the Cherokee Area Transportation System is suspending service through Monday.

Demand Response will be running for essential trips only, Cherokee County announced Wednesday. CATS dispatch will be calling citizens to cancel any demand response trips. Residents who have questions about Canton Fixed Route, Empower Cherokee or Senior Center transportation cancellations should call 770-345-6238.

The transportation system’s service suspension is due to gas shortages across Cherokee County, after a cyberattack last weekend on Colonial Pipeline. The company delivers nearly half of the East Coast’s fuel supply.
