Roswell police have arrested a Cherokee County man accused of sexually assaulting a student at a charter school, and they say there may have been more victims.
Robert Vandel, 63, from Canton, was a science teacher at Fulton Academy of Science and Technology Charter School in Roswell in early 2020, when police say he assaulted a student in his class.
Authorities began an investigation last Tuesday, and he was arrested Thursday at Lyndon Academy in Holly Springs, where he was teaching.
Vandel is charged with:
♦ Aggravated Assault with Intent to Rape a Child Under 14
♦ Aggravated Child Molestation
♦ Sexual Assault by Persons in Supervisory Authority
♦ Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes
♦ False Imprisonment of a Child Less Than 14
Lyndon Academy Headmaster Linda Murdock said the school is aware of Vandel’s charges, and he has been terminated from his teaching job there. According to the Lyndon’s website, he taught math, science and engineering.
Investigators believe Vandel may have assaulted additional victims. Roswell police credited Holly Springs Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office with assisting in the arrest.
