The Canton City Council has denied a request for a townhome neighborhood at Prominence Point Parkway.
The request from 620 Prominence Point Parkway Development Partners LLC was for the annexation of 14.36 acres at and around 620 Prominence Point Parkway and rezoning from agricultural to single-family residential, as well as a conditional use permit to construct a 114-unit townhome development.
At Thursday’s mayor and council meeting, Council Member Brooke Schmidt made the motion to deny the annexation request, which was seconded by Council Member Dwayne Waterman. Council members JoEllen Willson and Sandy McGrew also voted to deny the request. Council Member Shawn Tolan was the lone vote against the motion.
The applicant had requested to table the requests for a month to allow them time to explore different densities, housing types and buffers for the project, but the council decided to take a vote Thursday.
Four residents spoke in opposition of this request at a meeting earlier this month, citing concerns with the proposed density, the traffic and impact to the quality of life.
