Ball Ground residents who enjoy the walking trail at Calvin Farmer Park will soon be able to enjoy a brand new version of it, as a project to upgrade the trail nears completion.

After having been on the city’s short-term work program list for a few years, City Manager Eric Wilmarth said the sidewalk along the quarter-mile long loop trail was being backfilled Monday, with the sod delivery set for Tuesday. The final portion of the project, installing handrails, he said should be ready within a week or two.

Although the project has not been completed and officially opened yet, Wilmarth said the new trail has already been seeing use from the public. Despite this, he said the city does want to get the handrails installed as quickly as possible.

“It’s not even open and it’s been covered with people,” Wilmarth said. “We’ve been real surprised. It’s good to see that level of interest in it.”
