A jewelry store opened in downtown Canton last week, in the building where Key’s Jewelry was located for almost 70 years.

Indulgence Fine Jewelry opened its doors to the public March 15.

The store offers a variety of jewelry including pendants, engagement rings, wedding bands, earrings, necklaces, charms, bracelets, watches, and a section of the store will be dedicated to items made by local artists. The store carries a number of brands and offers repairs. Lisa Carrell, owner of Indulgence Fine Jewelry, said the store offers merchandise discounts and free watch batteries for first responders and military personnel.

Carrell, a Marietta resident, said new items to the store’s inventory are arriving daily.

“We’ve still got bags of stuff to tag and put into the inventory before we put them on the shelves,” she said.

Key’s Jewelry, which was in Canton since the early 1950s, closed on Christmas Eve. Carrell worked for Doug and Judy Key for 19 years at Key’s Jewelry.

“I was a jeweler, doing all of their repair benchwork,” Carrell said. “They put up with me in spite of me, and I wouldn’t have worked for them as long as I did if I didn’t love them to pieces. They were always honest and customer-oriented, and that’s two things that are a must for me.”

When she found out Key’s Jewelry would be closing in December, she said she “spent a few days freaking out” because “there wasn’t really anyone else I wanted to work for.”

“I’ve been doing this long enough that I decided if Doug would be willing to rent me the storefront, that I’d give it a go,” Carrell said. “I found a manager for the business side of things and a bookkeeper, two things that aren’t my strong suit so they’re teaching me as I go and I’m telling them what I want.”

Renovations to the store to transform it into Indulgence Fine Jewelry began Jan. 31.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the store is scheduled for April 20. Carrell said she plans to host a grand opening for the store the following weekend.

The store is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Indulgence Jewelry Store is located at 230 E. Main St. For more information, visit bit.ly/3CXOy05.
