With many Cherokee County roads still blocked by trees and downed power lines late Thursday afternoon and power still not restored in some areas, Cherokee County School District officials announced that schools would be closed Friday.

The system closed Thursday because of the dangers posed by Tropical Storm Zeta moving through the area in the early morning hours.

The statement from CCSD follows:

On behalf of the Superintendent, this is to announce that with multiple school power outages still ongoing likely through tomorrow morning and over 20 roads still impassible throughout the County, Cherokee County School District will be closed Friday, October 30. This will not be a Digital Learning Day due to the remaining widespread power outages. A decision to allow Friday extracurricular events will be made mid-day based upon local conditions.
