Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds arrested a man Thursday afternoon after he saw him riding a moped with no tag and steering it with his feet.
According to Capt. Jay Baker, communications director for the sheriff's office:
Reynolds was traveling north on I-575 south of Sixes Road when he observed the vehicle had no tag and the operator was was steering the moped with his feet. Reynolds tried to stop the man, but the driver refused to pull over. Just north of Rabbit Hill Road, the driver pulled off the interstate, drove into the woods and then ran away. Reynolds chased the man on foot and captured him near Ronnell Road.
Deputies located a bag of suspected methamphetamine under the seat of the moped. The driver, Evan Daves, 23, of Blairsville, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, fleeing and attempting to elude, operating a motorcycle without a helmet, operating over certain roads prohibited and driving without a tag. Daves remained in custody at the Cherokee County jail Friday morning with a $8,465 bond.
