An accident involving a motorcycle and a tractor trailer outside the entrance of Georgia National Cemetery closed Knox Bridge Highway for more than an hour Tuesday.

The motorcycle operator sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

The crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. and the road was reopened at about 3:02 p.m., according to the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency.

The accident is being investigated by the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit.

"Preliminary indications are the motorcycle pulled out of the cemetery in front of the tractor trailer, which was traveling westbound on Knox Bridge Highway," said Cherokee Sheriff's Office spokesman Jay Baker. "The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured."
