A 20-year-old woman has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of her 1-year-old daughter, Canton police said Tuesday.
According to Canton Police Department spokesman Pacer Cordry:
Chloe Alexis Driver, 20, of Knoxville, Tennessee and Jacksonville, Florida was arrested Tuesday and charged with malice murder, child cruelty, aggravated assault and aggravated battery for the stabbing that occurred in a Canton house on Dec. 9.
Police were called to a home in the Mountain View subdivision in Canton about 2:30 p.m. Dec. 9 where they discovered Driver and her baby in a bedroom, both suffering from stab wounds.
The child, Hannah Nicole Driver, was taken to Northside Hospital Cherokee where she died. Driver was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Medical Center in Marietta in serious condition.
Detectives arrested Driver following her release from the hospital. She remains in the Cherokee County jail.
Driver waived her right to appear at an initial hearing before Chief Magistrate Judge James Drane on Wednesday morning.
Neither prosecutor Katie Gropper nor defense attorney Angela Trethaway raised any issues to discuss and Drane ended the hearing within five minutes. No preliminary hearing has been set.
Canton police have released no details of their investigation and the arrest warrant has been sealed.
