A man driving north in the southbound lanes of I-575 was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

A driver going the wrong way on Interstate 575 caused the crash that shut down southbound lanes on Wednesday morning, according to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services.

According to a written statement from CCFEMS:

A man was traveling north on the southbound lane of the highway at about 7 a.m., resulting in a four-vehicle crash in Canton just north of Hickory Flat Highway.

According to Cherokee County firefighter Steven McEntyre, the wrong way driver was entrapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated. He was also the only one injured and was later transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta to be evaluated.

The southbound lanes of I-575 were shut down until the clean-up was complete. Both lanes were reopened at approximately 8:15 a.m. The accident is currently under investigation.
