A body was discovered along Blankets Creek Trail on Monday morning, authorities said. The incident was an apparent suicide.

According to Capt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office:

A user of the trail near Woodstock discovered the body of a 54-year-old woman at about 8 a.m. Monday and called 911. First responders determined the woman, whose family had not be notified as of early Monday afternoon, had been shot. Investigators believe the wound was self-inflicted.

The trail was closed during the investigation and removal of the body, but was reopened early Monday afternoon.
