A man walking in a crosswalk was struck by a vehicle on Saturday and died from the injuries Sunday, authorities said.

According to Capt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office:

Donald Beacham, 64, of Acworth was struck by a vehicle while crossing Ga. Highway 92 at Robin Road at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

“The motorist was traveling in the same direction as the pedestrian and when he turned left to travel west on Highway 92 he struck the pedestrian,” Baker said.

Beacham was transported to WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta with serious injuries. Beacham died from his injuries at Kennestone on Sunday.

“The driver of the vehicle, Kevin Orr, 63, of Acworth, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” Baker said. “Preliminary indications are that neither speed nor impairment were contributing factors to the accident which remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.”

A pedestrian died in Canton in November when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Riverstone Parkway . Canton Police Department spokesman Pacer Cordry said Monday that case is still under investigation. In that case the pedestrian was not crossing in a crosswalk, he said.
