One of downtown Ball Ground’s newest attractions, Rock Solid Brewing, hosted “Pink Boots Brew Day” on Monday in celebration of women in the beer and wine industry.
The celebration honored the women in the beer and wine industry, spotlighting their contributions while also serving as a way to benefit Pink Boots Society, an international non-profit organization supporting women in the industry.
“By invite only, women in the beer and wine industry from other local wineries and breweries gathered to take part in this celebration that took place on International Women’s Day,” Rock Solid Brewing owner Kate Gillum said. “We also invited anyone who is an Entrepreneur in the Ball Ground and mainstreet area. Together, we helped to brew beer, which Rock Solid brewing will sell at a future date, with some of the proceeds going towards Pink Boots Society.”
Gillum said the new beer was brewed using a special blend of hops from the Pink Boots Society. The group also made a new IPA with a pink grapefruit flavor, and gave learning sessions with head brewers at the celebration.
“The donation to the Pink Boots Society is really the key part of the brewing of the new beer because the proceeds going towards the society will help its cause, which is big because Pink Boots provides yearly scholarship opportunities for women, which helps to assist, ensure and inspire them to participate in this industry.”
Gillum added that the beer, which currently has a working name, won’t be ready for purchase for a couple of weeks.
Winemaker at Jasper’s Fainting Goat Vineyards & Winery McKenzie Higginbotham, who was in attendance at the celebration, said that it was both a wonderful and inspiring event.
“The gathering of women in this business was not only inspiring, but it also helped to develop a sense of comradery,” she said. “This county couldn’t be more blessed to have such an outstanding business in its backyard.”
Rock Solid Brewing opened in December of last year and is located at 345 Gilmer Ferry Road. Gillum said that business has gone well so far, with the brewery serving customers from across the county.
