An Acworth man has been charged in a crash on Interstate 75 last summer that resulted in the death of a 19-year-old Cartersville woman who was a passenger in the vehicle.

According to Capt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office:

Benjamin James Land, 20, of Acworth has been charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. He was arrested Tuesday and remained in the Cherokee County jail without bond on Tuesday afternoon.

The fatal crash occurred on Aug. 22.

“The investigation revealed that Land was driving impaired when he lost control of his vehicle, struck a guardrail, left the roadway and then struck a tree,” Baker said. “A female passenger, Savanna Joyce Martin, 19 of Cartersville, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.”
