A Ball Ground manufacturer of antennas has announced formation of a new defense division, which will also expand its workforce.
NXT Communications Corp. formed the NXTCOMM Defense division, focusing on serving the military mobile communications market, including the new U.S. Space Force, company officials said in a statement.
Company officials said they are working to complete over-the-air tests of its defense products by the end of the year. Once testing is completed, the company will proceed with full prototyping and over-the-air testing in early 2021, while 20 satellite communications engineering-related jobs will be filled at this time as well, officials said. In addition, NXTCOMM is marketing its defense antenna to system providers serving the military sector.
“The company’s Defense Division will serve as a leading manufacturer of antennas and antenna systems for defense applications and will initially target special forces most in need of portability, low-profile stealth, broadband capacity and high-level optimal performance,” NXTCOMM officials said in a news release. Huge shifts in military capacity requirements — fueled by the Space Force’s new warfighting architecture — can only be unlocked by (electronically steered antennas) that operate over (low earth orbit).
“(Low earth orbit) applications require a fast-tracking antenna capability that can track multiple satellites at once,” NXTCOMM Chief Commercial Officer Stephen Newell said.
