Authorities are investigating a shooting over the weekend in Cherokee County that left a man dead at a home in southwest Cherokee County

According to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office:

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a person shot call on Saturday, Aug. 7 at about noon on Mohawk Trail near Acworth. Upon arrival, deputies located Eduardo Figueroa, 31, of Acworth, deceased outside the home. Another male, Nicholas Mimms, 32, of Powder Springs, was on the scene and advised deputies he had shot Figueroa.

Neither Mimms nor Figueroa resided at the Mohawk Trail address. The residence belongs to Mimms’ parents.

Preliminary indications are that Figueroa arrived at the residence for a child custody visit. Mimms is in a relationship with the mother of Figueroa’s child. Neither the mother nor child were at the home at the time of the shooting.

No charges have been filed at this time, as the case remains under investigation.
